Fish louse or argulus is also a copepod parasite. Larger specimens are often visible to the naked eye. They are almost flat, can grow up to 5cm long and be almost as wide. Argulus crawls around the body of the fish, stopping to feed when necessary. A hand magnifying glass may be useful when examining a fish for their presence, particularly on the darker parts of the koi's pattern.
On close inspection with a lens, the structure of the body can be seen through its jelly like opaque outer
