For many baby boomers, behavior modification was learned about in high school when we studied learning theories and the work of Pavlov and Skinner. It seemed to many of us to reduce people to the level of animals that were trained. Just as a dog would stay calmer by learning that he would get food with good behavior so would a child avoid tantrums if a reward was going to be received. It seemed a bit degrading to think of human beings this way.
